There is a lot of hype for shoes these days. Some products deserve the love, some do not. Here are the shoes we believe will be our most sold Trail Running shoes of 2022.
- Topo MTN Racer 2 – These failed to make our Top7trail for 2021 only because they weren’t available for very long and there were limited quantities. 2022 we should be well stocked. On paper, it’s the shoe that should appeal to the most people possible: Good cushion—not minimal but not max either; Great traction with Vibram Mega Grip; Wide fitting in the toe box, but more fitted in the heel and midfoot; Great upper; Not zero drop.
- Altra Lone Peak 6 – Altra has done it! The LP6 is on its way to us and other great retailers!! They’ll
be available for a full year like the MTN Racer 2, unlike the SG5. Knocking the LP franchise out of the #1 spot will be competition from within its own brand: Timp 4, Mount Blanc and Out Road will all take sakes away from it. - Hoka Speedgoat 5 – These would have a better shot at the top spot if they were available all year. March, April and May delivery dates for the first 3 colors. Also, the Tecton X and Mafate Speed 4 are going to take a lot of sales away from the SG franchise.
- Brooks Caldera 6 – These are more competition for the Speedgoat franchise. 2022 is going to be a good year if you like Max Cushion!! Also with the Catamount possibly going MIA, Brooks fans have one less option.
- Altra Mount Blanc – Did someone say Max Cushion?! These hopefully will drop February and feature Vibram Mega Grip and a thick stack height between lone peak and Olympus. It’ll be much lighter than Olympus though.
- Topo Terraventure 3 – Another shoe with Vibram Mega Grip!! These have more ground feel than any other shoe in this list. Like the MTN, the TV3 will just appeal to a lot of different folks from beginning trail runners, obstacle course racers, Spartan and Mud runners, and of course ultra runners.
- Hoka Torrent 2 – The only reason these are falling down from their 2021 spot: they will be hard to get the first half of 2022 until new colors come in June. Don’t hesitate to get yours: buy two pair if you find them in your size!
Honorable Mentions:
- Hoka Tecton X – These will be awesome! But with a May launch that could be postponed and a $200 price tag, it’ll be hard to move as many as the ones listed above.
- Hoka Mafate Speed 4 – These have sleeper potential for sure, but they launch in August.
- Salomon Ultra Glide – Finally we have a lot of them!! Hopefully the pairs we order for 2022 actually come.
- Altra Timp 4 – A much improved Timp.
- Brooks Cascadia 16 – An all around great shoe that will be available all of 2022
- Topo Ultraventure 2 – ditto
- Dynafit Ultra 100
- Dynafit Ultra 50
