About Seven Hills Running Shop
Seven Hills Running Shop is a small, independent running shop in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood, just down the road from Discovery Park.
Founded by Phil Kochik in 2012, Seven Hills grew out of a simple passion: helping other runners find the shoes and gear that make running Seattle’s roads and trails more enjoyable.
Phil has been selling running shoes in Seattle since 2002, and that experience still shapes what we do today. We’re runners ourselves, we know the local trails, and we’re genuinely interested in helping you find the right gear for the way you run.
Trail Running Is Our Thing
Trail running has always been at the heart of Seven Hills.
We carry a carefully selected range of trail running shoes, apparel, packs, hydration, and other gear, while also offering plenty of options for road runners. Our selection reflects the way we run here in the Pacific Northwest, from everyday miles around the city to long days in the mountains and everything in between.
Being so close to Discovery Park is a pretty good setup, too. You can visit the shop, grab a pair of shoes, and be on the trails within minutes.
More Than a Running Store
We want Seven Hills to be part of Seattle’s running community, not simply a place to buy shoes.
We host regular group runs, shoe demos, events, and opportunities to get together with other runners. Our Wednesday night Team7Hills run heads into Discovery Park every week, and we’re proud to work with other local running communities throughout the year.
We also support organizations and events that help protect and grow access to trails and the outdoors.
The People
Seven Hills has always been a team effort, and over the years, a lot of great runners have helped shape the shop. Seven Hills is a shop run by runners, for runners.
Glenn Tachiyama was one of the earliest members of the Seven Hills crew. A longtime fixture in Seattle’s running community, Glenn brought years of experience to the shop and continues to contribute his incredible eye as our shop photographer.
Kay Downes-Allen has also been an important part of Seven Hills for years, assisting customers on the shop floor, helping keep the website, social media, newsletters, and much of our day-to-day communication moving behind the scenes.
When you stop by Seven Hills, you’ll also find Bryant, Day, Simon or Chris working the floor, ready to talk running and answer whatever questions you happen to bring through the door.
We’re grateful to everyone who has been part of the Seven Hills family over the years. Each employee has brought their own experience, personality, and perspective to the shop. Their knowledge, enthusiasm, and love of running are a big part of what makes this shop special and have helped build the community we have today. Some have moved on to new adventures, while others are still part of Seven Hills. We’re grateful to everyone who has spent time behind the counter, joined a group run, shared a favorite trail, or simply helped make the shop what it is.
What We Believe
We believe good advice starts with listening.
There’s no single shoe, pack, or piece of gear that works for everyone. Your terrain, mileage, goals, experience, and personal preferences all matter. We’d rather help you find something that works than sell you something you don’t need.
We’re especially passionate about trail running, but whether you’re heading out for your first neighborhood 5K, training for a marathon, or preparing for your next 100-miler, you’re welcome at Seven Hills.
