Prior to Thanksgiving, let’s dole out our 2015 Turkey Awards. The #Turkey7
First time we’ve given such dubious honors; please keep in mind: this is all in fun!
- Salomon Sense Mantra 3 – I actually predicted this shoe to be in our 2015 #Top7 for women. We failed to sell a single women’s pair; choosing to send them back to Salomon.
- Hoka Speedgoat – A few days after getting the Speedgoat, I started calling it simply, The Goat. I know some folks like it…but it’s just a strange shoe. Sorry, Speedgoat Karl! We love Drymax’s Speedgoat Socks, though, and every other Hoka. #RIPrapanui
- Scott Trail Rocket – They made the men’s version in only one color–all red! C’mon, of all the colors and names to pair together, the Red Rockets win the prize for biggest chuckle.
- Brooks Cascadia v 10 – The 10th anniversary of the Cascadia!! The seas should have parted and revealed the best trail running shoe ever, right?!? Sadly the shoe-franchise that transformed the trail running shoe industry, layed an egg with this iteration. It was too narrow for most guys; and had uppers that ripped on lots of folks. Just like living through a bad president, though, there will be plenty of folks that cheer this shoe after the fact. No doubt in five years, we’ll hear at the shop, “The Cascadia 15 was no Cascadia 10!”
- Montrail – Montrail let go their Western States sponsorship this year–a year after they let go of most of their sponsored athletes. Montrail seems to be reeling a bit. I don’t want to kick a beloved brand when it’s down, though: 2016 should be a big rebound year for Montrail with 3 #NewTrailShoes: Trans Alps, Caldorado, and Fluid Flex FKT. (sidenote: We couldn’t be more excited that Altra picked up the #ws100 sponsorship. #AltraInSquaw)
- New Balance Hierro – Nothing says Fresh Foam like…iron?? Don’t get us wrong, we love the Fresh Foam Trail Shoe previously known as the 980 Trail. We love that New Balance has started naming their shoes (Boracay, Zante) instead of using numbers…but Hierro, Spainish for iron? Never before has the re-branding of a shoe caused less of a splash.
- Ultimate Direction’s Twitter handle – UD, known for their hydration packs, bottles, and accessories, has a hot new product, the Ultra Jacket. This jacket is so cool–waterproof, lightweight and packable; it’s selling out all over the place! Their Marathon Jacket comes out soon as well. The Anton Trucker Hat they released this year sold out fast, too. Their twitter handle has remained @UDhydrates
