Top 7 Trail Running Shoes 2017

Every year, we like to highlight our Best Selling Shoes!  As a trail running focused shop, we pride ourselves on having the best selection of trail running shoes around.  This year our percentage of trail shoes dipped a bit to 65.6%.  Road shoes accounted for 34.4% of our shoe business.  Previous years have been closer to 70/30.  We attribute the “rise of road shoes” to one shoe in particular: The Altra Escalante, new for 2017, outsold all previous road models and was a staff favorite.

Top7Trail Women’s 2017 Overall

1. Altra Lone Peak 3 & 3.5 – In years past we’ve divided the LPs up. By themselves, the LP3.5 would have finished 5th. And the LP3.0 off the list at 8. These shoes were so similar we combined their sales for 2017.
2. Topo Terraventure – For a single model, the Terraventure was our #1 shoe. It had the advantage of being available all year where each LP only had 6months.
3. Altra Superior 3 – Steady as always! Stores that don’t over both LP and Superior are missing out!
4. Altra Timp – Coming out in July, the Timp racked up sales fast!
5. Saucony Peregrine 7
6. Hoka Speedgoat 2 – Another July release that impressed. Only these and Timp made the list being available just 1/2 the year.
7. Brooks Caldera

For the women’s trail category, Altra had 32.1% of sales. Topo came second with 14.8% and Hoka third with 12.7%.

Top7Trail Men’s 2017 Overall

1. Altra Lone Peak 3 & 3.5 – For the men, the LP3 individually would have tied for 1st with the Timp. And the LP3.5 would have finished 4th. Sales of LP3.5 were really affected by the release of the Timp at the same time.
2. Altra Timp – The Timp’s sales impressed, but not everyone was a fan. It’ll be interesting to see if folks will switch back to the LP after trying Timp once. We’ve already seen several people buy 2nd pairs of Timp, though.
3. Topo Terraventure – As solid of a all appealing trail shoe as you can get!
4. Hoka Speedgoat 2 – So excited that Hokas are hoppin at the shop again!

6. Brooks Caldera
7. Saucony Peregrine 7

For the men’s trail category, Altra was tops with 39.1% followed by Hoka at 11.3% and Topo with 9.6%.

The rest of the pie was made up of La Sportiva,  Inov-8, Scarpa, Scott, On Running, and Astral.
