#Top7 Trail shoes – July 2016

One list to rule them all! This month we only have one #top7trail shoe list to share. The men and women trail runners purchasing shoes at Seven Hills Running Shop agreed with their feet and the top seven shoes stacked up the same for both sexes. I think it might well be a first!

  • GOLD: Altra Lone Peak 3.0
  • The latest rendition of Altra’s popular Lone Peak launched this month, and it’s been charging out of the door and onto the Pacific North West dirt. The Lone Peak 3.0 is the clear winner for July by a substantial margin. The fully cushioned shoe has seen all round improvements. It’s lighter but feels more substantial and protective, and now boasts a sticky rubber outsole with TrailClaw for upgraded traction. Protection from rocks and underfoot trail hazards is still capably handled by a StoneGuard (rockplate) innovatively sandwiched into the sole. This update of a proven favorite has captured our customer’s attention making it a worthy winner and the trail shoe to check out for both existing Altra zero-drop fans and the curious alike.

  • SILVER: Altra Olympus 2.0
  • The Lone Peak’s beefier big brother is still holding his own in the pack and ensuring Altra dominates the Seven Hills Running Shop #top7trail podium. For those looking for maximum cushioning, a foot shaped toe box, and the amazing traction of a Vibram Megagrip outsole, the Olympus is ready and waiting to keep feet happy and secure on the trails.

  • BRONZE: Saucony Peregrine
  • This light weight, responsive, low profile shoe is gaining quite a following. Customers are appreciating its accommodating toe box coupled with a nimble feel and a sole that has some bite.

  • 4: Pearl Izumi Trail N2v3
  • 5: Merrell All Out Peak
  • 6: Pearl Izumi Trail N3
  • 7: Saucony Xodus ISO

Saucony has two shoes on our Top 7 for the first time ever! We don’t see the sales of those two models slowing down any time soon, but is there a shoe that can kick its way into the August #Top7Trail rankings? The newly launched Hoka Speed Instinct might be that shoe. Fresh on our shelves, first impressions are that it feels fast, nimble and grippy while still providing ample cushioning. This shoe screams out to go to the races. Hoka will be joining us for a shoe demo at our group run on August 10th, so we’ll be putting it through its paces then. Join us and feel how it handles for yourself!
