Top7 Lists Midyear Review

Lone Peak 2.5 W 2

After being #1 in 2014, Altra has kept on rolling in 2015.  It’s the top brand once again, through the first half of the year.

#Top7 brands First Half of 2015

(Jan. 1 thru June 30; combined sales: road & trail, men’s & women’s)

  1. Altra 20.3%
  2. Pearl Izumi 15.7%
  3. Hoka 12.8%
  4. Topo Athletic 8.7%
  5. New Balance 5.9%
  6. Brooks 5.6%
  7. Merrell 5.4%

In the hunt: Saucony 5.3% and Salomon 5.1%  The rest of the pie comprised of: Inov-8, Scott, Montrail, La Sportiva, Zoot

Big changes in positions 4-7 from what we have seen in the past.  Montrail and Scott really faded this Spring, giving Brooks and New Balance more sales.  Merrell made the Top7 on the strength of one great shoe: All Out Peak.  Topo Athletic may seem like the biggest surprise…I gave it an outside shot at making the Top7 at the end of last year.  Topo was a stellar seller this spring, falling right behind our big three brands.  Altra, Pearl Izumi and Hoka have been some combination of 1, 2, 3 for a long time now, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

However, Topo will edge closer to the 3rd spot this Fall as they unveil 2 new amazing road models–Tribute and Magnifly–and the revamped MT v2 for the trails.

#Top7 Men’s Trail Running Shoes First Half of 2015

(Jan. 1 thru June 30 in terms of quantity sold)

  1. Altra Lone Peak 2.0
  2. Altra Superior 2.0

  4. Pearl Izumi Trail N2
  5. Pearl Izumi Trail M2

  7. Scott Kinabalu v3

Honorable Mention: Salomon Sense Pro and Hoka Challenger were really close to making the list!

Merrell’s Peak really took the shop by storm, providing a great trail shoe option that most shops passed on.  Topo’s Runventure kept the Superior 2.0 from the top spot, stealing a few sales away from the similar Altra shoe.
