Matt Stebbins’ Customer Review:

I wore out several pairs of the Superior 1.0s before I ever tried the Lone Peaks; and had the rock plate been a little more substantial in the Superior, I probably never would have tried the Lone Peaks.  The lack of rock protection is one of the few drawbacks of the Superior – the removable rock plate, while a great idea in theory, doesn’t actually offer all that much protection against nasty, technical trails.  Additionally, the shoes just aren’t as sturdy as the Lone Peaks, and I’ve seen them delaminate and rip out at much lower mileages.  (Still: I don’t think any of my Superiors have worn out before 300 miles, and most made it at least 400.)  All that said, these are a great shoe for their price.  Outside of the occasional rock bruising (Yakima Skyline)  my feet don’t get sore in the Superiors.  The cushioning is more than sufficient, and they hold up well on varied terrains: hard-pack, mud, soft forest trails, snow.  Additionally, the fit of the Superiors seems a little more adjustable than with the Lone Peaks, so depending on lacing and whether or not I’m including the insole and/or removable rock plate, I can run in them in everything from thick neoprene socks (the Superiors have become my go-to snow running shoe) to thin liner socks.  Honestly, were it not for the Lone Peaks, these would probably be my most worn shoes.
